Action Research

Action research is the process of a principal engaging in systematic, intention study of his/her own administrative practice taking action for change based on what he/she learns as a result of the inquiry.  Action research is conducted by administrator or a leadership team that hold an interest in the improvement of the school. It is the intentional questioning of processes in order to make changes.  Action research is focused on inquiry information and finding a solution for the problem identified by the campus principal or leadership team.  The focus is school improvement rather than testing or explaining why something may happen.  Action research allows the application of a case-study approach to answer key questions encountered in the everyday learning situations in a school.   Action research can be used in numerous ways.  It can be used to enhance the teaching practices and or student achievement.   I plan to use this process in my research action plan.  My research action plan will focus on the need of inclusion for Preschool Children with disabilities.  This year my school began a full inclusion program.  Each Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) class was paired with a “Regular” Ed class.  The program has been met with much resistance.  I plan to use action research to enable best practices, focus and strengthen the school and classroom improvement, and help our children without disabilities become role models for our disabled children.
